Chinatown Report: This Week in Chinatown
Las Vegas Chinatown news and analysis by Chinatownvegas.com. Food. Restaurants. Tips. Things to do. Events. What’s in? What’s out? RUMORS + much more
Rain, rain go away. Actually, in the desert, the rain was very well needed. Now, if the cold would just go away, we’re good. Chinatown was as vibrant as usual with CES attendees filling our restaurants to the brim. Construction at the Spring Mountain and Decatur intersection has slowed down traffic. Expect continued delays.
As a reminder, Miss Universe Laos, Pa Yengxa Lor who kicked off her US tour in our Chinatown, will compete in the 71st Miss Universe finals this Sunday in New Orleans. The finals can be watched for free on the Roku Channel website as well as Telemundo in Spanish.
Let’s have a look and see what is new in Chinatown.
Starting from the east and heading west on Spring Mountain Rd.
What’s Up at The Center at Spring Mountain?
Rose Mcgowan and India-Haylee Barton Party in Chinatown
Actress turned activist Rose Mcgowan (Jawbreaker, Scream, Planet Terror, Death Proof) and curve model India-Haylee came out to Chinatown’s Golden Tiki to support their friend, Sabina Kelley who was the guest bartender. Sabina, the showgirl, TV personality, and international pinup model, made some killer cocktails with Alma De Agave Tequila and Lemba Rum.
The Chinatown Plaza
We originally reported back in November that the Filipino fast-food restaurant Lutang Bahay had closed and last week we posted that it would be replaced with a new Korean restaurant. One week later we can confirm that Jinju Gomtang opened on Wednesday, January 1oth, 2023. Jinju Gomtang specializes in Seolleongtang 설렁탕 – an Ox bone soup that is a very popular local dish in Seoul Korea, especially in the colder months. The restaurant will open at 8:30 AM and the closing time is still unconfirmed at the time of this post.
Hotai Plaza
Will the real Bánh mì, please stand up, please stand up?
We first reported that Pho Dakao had closed, back in October of last year. A few days later and what seemed to be overnight, the name was changed to Ca Han. Then, a few days later, the restaurant was closed again due to health issues. Then reopened, again. Then closed and, with a quick sign change – Dan Han is born. Dan Han serves Authentic Vietnamese Cuisine and Desserts and specializes in Banh Mi. Currently cash only, the restaurant is open from 7:30 am to 7:00 pm 7 days a week.
Ramen Kyara is Now Open
Back in the October 14 2022 issue of This Week in Chinatown, we broke the news that Kyara was opening its second location in Chinatown, in the former Bubble Shaved Ice space. We are excited to say they Kyara is now open. They soft opened on January 9th. Kyara features the cuisine of Chef/Owner Yasuo Komada and offers build-your-own ramen in addition to some of their signature dishes such as “Nemo OG Ramen” (seafood ramen) and their “Naruto OG” Ramen (shoyu ramen) and what may very well be the best spicy seafood ramen in the city!

This Ain’t Your Momma’s Pizza Pie
Last week we reported that a pizzeria had set up shop inside Ninja Karaoke. Chinatown Vegas has some more info to share with you about what a tremendous asset to our culinary mecca-neighborhood this is.
Ghost Pie Pizza has been researched & developed by chef Matt Dhillon for over 4 years and uses e a proprietary yeast strain that is 400+ years old. It’s the base that produces the “Cloud Pie Pizza dough”, a light, fluffy, airy interior with a 16th-inch thick crisp exterior. Ghost Pie also features a Chicago Cracker Crust which is paper thin exterior with a 1/8th inch champagne size crumb/chew interior they also do an unleavened St.Louis style.
All other pizzas are made with organic Semolina flour from Abruzzo, Italy & water buffalo milk mozzarella which is richer and creamier than the standard cow’s milk mozzarella.
Cathay Hills Plaza
Ichiza Hanari – all private dining. all Private dining room is very popular izakaya-style in Japan. It’s perfect for a business meeting or intimate, private dining. Ichiza Hanaro will have the same menu as the original Ichiza, located a few blocks east on Spring Mountain Rd. open from 5:00 pm until 2:00 am every day except Wednesdays.
Can I Buy a Vowel, Please?
Originally slated to be named the “Korea Town Mall“, later rumored to be called “Sapporo District“, the soon-to-be mall at 5599 Spring Mountain Road just lit up its sign for the first time. Alternating between an image of the American flag and the letter “H” our guess is it is named after Humanity Health Care on the same lot across from it.
Spring Mountain Center
The Spring Mountain Center was built in 1976 and predates Chinatown by 2 decades. On Jones Blvd., the strip mall stretches from Spring Mountain to Desert In Rd.
