LVLT Announces Auditions for ‘A Tuna Christmas’
The Las Vegas Little Theatre (LVLT) is holding open auditions for its upcoming production of A Tuna Christmas. Directed by Chris Davies, this hilarious sequel to Greater Tuna follows the third-smallest town in Texas during the holiday season. The show features a cast of colorful characters, many of whom will be familiar to fans of the original play.
LVLT is seeking to cast two adult men for this fast-paced production. Each actor will take on the challenge of playing 10 or more different characters. Those interested in auditioning should come prepared for cold readings from the script. No prepared monologues are required. Headshots and resumes are accepted, but not necessary.
Auditions will be held in person at the Las Vegas Little Theatre, located at 3920 Schiff Dr., on Monday, September 22, and Tuesday, September 23, both at 7 p.m. Interested actors should choose one of the two days to attend.
This is a volunteer opportunity, as LVLT is an entirely volunteer-run organization. Rehearsals will begin immediately after auditions. Performance dates are set for December 5-21, 2025, with shows on Fridays and Saturdays at 7 p.m. and on Saturdays and Sundays at 2 p.m.
For questions, please get in touch with the theater at 702-362-7996 or email info@lvlt.org. All roles are currently available.

🌱 Coming Soon: Chinatown’s Scene Heats Up
Big Changes at The Center at Spring Mountain: Hotpot Arrives, Bambu Moves On
Bambu, a longtime favorite for desserts and refreshing drinks, has officially changed hands—and in its place, something completely new is coming. Hot Point, a vibrant hotpot restaurant, will soon open at The Center at Spring Mountain, making history as the very first hotpot establishment in the complex. While it’s bittersweet to say goodbye to Bambu, we look forward to Hot Point as those that can never get enough hotpot.
As for Bambu’s former owner, Santy Luangpraseuth, she’s already cooking up her next big success. Her new venture, Yo! Mochi recently debuted at Boca Park on West Charleston, with a second location already planned for the Palms Hotel and Casino. Yo! Mochi blends Japanese mochi with classic American donuts, creating chewy, crispy mochi donuts in a rainbow of flavors. The shop also features mochi malasadas, corn dogs, waffles, and handcrafted drinks. To top it off, the playful vibe includes arcade games and claw machines, making it a sweet spot for both families and foodies.
From hotpot to mochi donuts, Chinatown and its extended community continue to evolve with flavors and fun. Stay tuned as we bring you the latest on both openings and what they mean for the neighborhood.

📜 Looking Back: Irene’s Becomes Jackpot Joanie’s
As we stroll west along Spring Mountain Road, it’s worth remembering the transformation that took place at the northeast corner of Spring Mountain and Lindell. Back in 2022, Irene’s, a longtime fixture in Chinatown, closed its doors, making way for something new. Contractors completely demolished the interior, and the space was rebuilt and converted into Jackpot Joanie’s, a fresh addition to the neighborhood’s vibrant dining and entertainment scene.
This change marked more than just a renovation; it was a symbol of Chinatown’s ongoing evolution. While longtime visitors may recall the charm of Irene’s, Jackpot Joanie’s brought a new energy, reflecting the area’s dynamic growth and its ability to reinvent itself while honoring the past continually. Back in our second “This Week in Chinatown” on October 14, we reported that Irene’s had closed and would reopen as a Jackpot Joanie’s. We reached out to company representatives and were told to look out for a spring 2023 opening. The exterior design has been opened and features two large windows on each side of the main entrance.
Jackpot Joanie’s is owned by local businessman Ron Winchell, who owns more than 20 gaming properties as well as the Kentucky Downs racetrack. Jackpot Joanie’s offers 24-hour gaming and spirits, adding a lively new dimension to Chinatown. Looking back, it’s fascinating to see how spaces in Chinatown continue to adapt, keeping the neighborhood vibrant and full of surprises. Visit Jackpot Joanie’s to experience this evolution firsthand and share your thoughts with #ChinatownVegasVibes!
😤 Chinatown Gripes: Persistent Community Concerns
Some problems just won’t go away. So we will repeat each week until hopefully voices bigger than ours chime in—and this week’s gripes are a reminder that Chinatown’s challenges are part of a bigger citywide issue.
- Potholes That Punish
Buses, cars, and even cyclists take a beating from deep potholes along Spring Mountain and side streets. Riders complain of constant rattling and shaking, with one follower calling it “deafening.” - Traffic Lights Out of Sync
The timing on several key intersections still creates long, unnecessary waits. Drivers speed up to catch poorly timed greens, while pedestrians are left stranded at crosswalks that seem designed more for traffic flow than for people. - Dangerous Crashes at Key Intersections
Late Thursday night, yet another serious accident shook our community—this time at the busy intersection of S. Decatur Blvd and Spring Mountain Rd. Around 10:52 p.m., multiple people were injured when cars collided in one of Chinatown’s most congested crossroads. One victim was taken to the hospital, while others were treated at the scene. This intersection—surrounded by shopping plazas and late-night restaurants—is no stranger to danger. Locals know it’s a hotspot for speeding and reckless driving, especially after dark. And once again, lives were put at risk. - ⚠️ The gripe? How many more crashes do we need before speed limits along Spring Mountain are lowered? Chinatown’s sidewalks are packed nightly with diners, workers, and families. Cars racing through at Strip-level speeds turn every crosswalk into a gamble. Las Vegas police are investigating this crash, but the cause hardly matters when the pattern is so clear. Until officials make pedestrian safety a true priority, every resident and visitor in Chinatown remains at risk. 👉 We urge city leaders: Slow the traffic, save lives.
- Bus Stops & Pickups That Don’t Make Sense
Riders are still puzzled by confusing drop-off points that leave them far from transfer stops or force long detours on foot. - And it’s not just Chinatown
Reader Beth Lu from Seattle shared her family’s recent experience: “All the notes in the Gripes section are true. Potholes cause rattling on the bus that is deafening, and the entire bus shakes and stutters. But the issues aren’t just limited to Chinatown. We stayed at an Airbnb off Rainbow Blvd and Endora, a block north of Flamingo. Getting to the bus was simple, but after only two stops, we were dropped off so far north of Spring Mountain that it took us 8 minutes to reach the transfer to the #203. On the way back, the bus dropped us at Endora—but there was no crosswalk. We had to fight traffic with two children and a group of students, darting across cars racing in both directions like a highway. How is this allowed? How hasn’t someone filed a formal complaint?”
Beth’s story highlights what many locals already know: the dysfunction runs deep, and these basic safety and infrastructure issues demand urgent attention—not just in Chinatown, but across the city.
