A Different Time

D4C Road was the route to the former D4C Ranch, situated between what we now know as Spring Mountain Road and Twain Avenue.

Today’s Location

The photo’s site is almost unrecognizable now—it’s currently located where the I-15 off-ramp to Spring Mountain Road sits.

The Future

This historic area is right near where the exciting new Loop Chinatown Station is planned, connecting the past to the future of transportation in the district.

Wells Cargo, a family company founded in Reno, was a major player in trucking, mining, asphalt, and paving, and this office reflects the industrial roots that helped build modern Las Vegas.

Chinatown Gripes

🚧 Pedestrian Crossing Update: Work Has Finally Begun!

For the past two weeks, we’ve had to report on the lack of visible progress on the pedestrian crossing connecting Shanghai Plaza and Chinatown Plaza, despite the project being officially “started.”

We are now happy to report that visible work has begun! A worker was spotted on-site this past Monday, taking the first steps toward building this crucial safety feature. (No work was observed on Tuesday, which was expected due to the Veterans Day holiday).

We are glad to see the long wait is over and sincerely hope the construction team can adhere to the predicted 45-day completion timeline. We will be keeping a close eye on this project!

🤬 The Current Gripes Section: Still the Same Old Story

While we celebrate the start of the crossing, the other major gripes plaguing the Chinatown corridor remain unchanged and demand immediate attention:

⚠️ Dangerous Traffic Speeds: The 45 MPH speed limit is still too high for our dense, highly-trafficked corridor. We need the speed limit reduced to 35 MPH or less to protect pedestrians and reduce the frequency of accidents.
🚗 Crumbling Roads & Potholes: Spring Mountain Road continues to suffer from neglect. Urgent patch and repair work is desperately needed to address the growing number of potholes and deteriorating lanes.
🚦 Traffic Congestion & Timers: Frustrations persist over erratic traffic light timing and the constant bottlenecks caused by poor turning lane design and high plaza traffic.
🅿️ Parking Scarcity: Finding a spot, especially at popular plazas like Shanghai, is a daily challenge for patrons. More proactive solutions are needed to address the chronic parking woes.
🖌️ Vandalism: Graffiti and vandalism continue to pop up, detracting from the beauty and reputation of the corridor.
