🌟 Chinatown Spotlight: A Bite of History with Fukuburger
🌟 SPOTLIGHT
In 2010, Las Vegas’s food scene got a shake-up. Fukuburger rolled in as a gourmet food truck. Founded by Colin Fukunaga, it blended American burgers with Japanese flair. Think Tamago Burger with a fried egg and teriyaki glaze. Or the Kinoko Mushroom Burger, packed with umami. The food was just the start.

Fukuburger created a vibe. Breakdancers spun outside the truck. Locals and tourists flocked to the scene. It was the place to be in Chinatown. Their buzz grew on Twitter (now X). Fans chased the truck’s daily locations. This grassroots movement earned a feature in The New York Times. TV shows raved about their unique eats. Fukuburger helped shape Chinatown’s foodie fame. It tied into the 2015–2020 boom we cover in Looking Back. From truck to brick-and-mortar at 3429 S. Jones Blvd., they built a community.

There is always something new and exciting happening in Chinatown, and we’ve been tracking several projects that are either just about to open or are in the early stages of development. Here are some of the latest updates we’ve been following:
Teso Life: The popular Japanese retailer is officially bringing its huge selection of Japanese snacks, beauty products, and home goods to Chinatown. We reported on this back in March, and the store is now set to transform the former CVS space, making it a new one-stop shop for Japanese lifestyle goods.
Shin-Sen-Gumi Yakitori: The legendary California-based yakitori chain is setting up shop right here in Vegas. Known for their charcoal-grilled skewers and lively atmosphere, this is a major win for fans of authentic Japanese izakaya and promises to be one of the hottest new spots.
Mukgo Nolza: Get ready for a unique dining experience! Mukgo Nolza is an Asian fusion restaurant that plans to blend dining with sci-fi karaoke vibes. This sounds like an amazing new concept that’s sure to be a hit with both locals and tourists looking for something different.
Public Art Murals: It’s not just about the food! As part of the ongoing “Inspiring Spring Mountain” project, new public art, including a golden dragon mural by artist Gear Duran, is being added to the area. This push for new murals and sculptures will make our entire district even more beautiful and walkable.
Stay tuned for more updates on these exciting developments, and be sure to check our feed for the latest grand opening announcements!

📜 Looking Back: From Bright Idea to Cultural Anchor
Spring Mountain Road transformed in the mid-2010s. Chinatown was already a foodie haven. But 2015–2020 brought new energy. High-end restaurants and businesses opened. Food critics and tourists took notice. Chinatown became a must-visit spot. We at chinatownvegas.com helped fuel this.
Our listings and calendars guided visitors.
Take Soulo Hair Spa, for example. We featured Las Vegas’s first Japanese head spa. Soon, more spas popped up. This sparked a wellness trend in Chinatown. Millions now visit annually. Chinatown’s no longer a hidden gem. It’s a foodie and wellness destination. Spring Mountain Road shines as a Vegas hotspot.
Here is more news we broke
Over the last few years, Chinatown has been a hotbed of exciting new developments. Our team at ChinatownVegas.com has been on the front lines, bringing you the scoop on the most anticipated restaurant and cafe openings. We’ve rounded up some of our biggest news breaks below.
One Piece Cafe
The news first dropped in our “This Week in Chinatown” feature in late April 2024, creating an immediate buzz. We followed up with an exclusive post on April 28, 2024, to announce the soft opening of the USA’s first One Piece Cafe. The cafe made its grand entrance by transforming the former Fugetsu Grill location, instantly becoming a must-visit spot for fans and foodies alike.
Chef Tony Dim Sum
We broke the news on July 13, 2024, that Chef Tony, a celebrated name in dim sum from Los Angeles, would be coming to Vegas. Known for its Michelin-recommended cuisine, the renowned restaurant is set to open in the long-vacant space next to Chung Chou City. This news was a game-changer, promising to elevate Chinatown’s already famous dim sum scene.
Palette Tea Lounge
Our team was the first to report on this major culinary event back on October 26, 2022. We revealed that Palette Tea Lounge, from the acclaimed team behind Koi Palace and Dragon Beaux, would be bringing its modern dim sum and Cantonese cuisine to Chinatown. The restaurant is set to take over the prominent space formerly occupied by Joyful House.
Shoo Loong Kan Hotpot
As a key part of the ever-evolving Chinatown landscape, we’ve followed the progress of Shoo Loong Kan Hotpot as it has become a new and exciting addition to our community. Its presence solidifies Spring Mountain Road’s reputation as a top destination for authentic and vibrant dining experiences, adding another fantastic option for hotpot enthusiasts.

🚦 Chinatown Gripes: Persistent Community Concerns
Nothing’s changed, so we’re shouting louder! Chinatown’s issues persist week after week.
A recent accident proves we need action now. Here’s what’s frustrating our community.
- Dangerous Intersections
A crash on September 3rd shook Chinatown. At S. Jones Blvd and Spring Mountain Rd, multiple people were hospitalized. Emergency crews arrived at 10:43 p.m., halting traffic. Unsafe intersections need urgent fixes. - Speeding on Spring Mountain
The 45 mph speed limit is too high. Chinatown’s packed with pedestrians and plazas. Tourists and locals cross with strollers and bags. It feels like a freeway, not a community. - Poor Signal Timing
Traffic lights cause endless frustration. Long waits for left turns clog lanes. Bad timing fuels driver anger. Accidents like this week’s prove the risk. - Crumbling Infrastructure
Potholes plague Chinatown’s roads. Parking lot and bus stop lights are dim or broken. Worn-down infrastructure hurts businesses and visitors. These issues linger despite our complaints. - Public Transit Woes
RTC buses are modern but poorly planned. Stops are far from key spots. Take Ichiza as an example. When coming from the Strip, you’re dropped 30 yards past Arville. Multiple light waits make visits a hassle. We need real solutions!
