AAPI Community and Metro Partner Up: Building Bridges in Chinatown
This week in Chinatown, we witnessed a significant step toward fostering stronger relationships between the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (Metro).
The official launch of Metro’s Asian American Pacific Islander Alliance at the Las Vegas Little Theater marks a commitment to open communication and collaboration. This new alliance, modeled after the existing Hispanic Alliance and Black Community Alliance, aims to address issues faced by AAPI communities within Las Vegas.
Sheriff Kevin McMahill acknowledged the need to rebuild trust, stating that the department has “alienated” many AAPI residents in the past. The alliance serves as a platform for dialogue and aims to ensure that AAPI voices are heard and represented within Metro.
Chinatownvegas.com applauds this initiative and believes it’s crucial to building a more inclusive and collaborative policing environment. We look forward to the positive impact this alliance will have on our community
Also at the Las Vegas Little Theater, Get ready for “Once Upon a Mattress,” opening July 12th at 7 pm on the LVLT main stage (LVLT.ORG).
This week’s spotlight shines on Amy Isaacson, a recent Las Vegas Academy of the Arts graduate and rising star! This is her first performance with the Las Vegas Little Theatre, and she’s bringing her passion for singing and acting to the stage.
Head over to LVLT.ORG for tickets and showtimes. Break a leg, Amy!
This Cone Report: The Neverending Saga of Decatur & Spring Mountain (June 30, 2024)
Las Vegas residents and visitors, buckle up! It’s time for another update on the seemingly permanent construction project at the Decatur and Spring Mountain intersection. Here at Chinatownvegas.com, we’ve been chronicling this saga for over two years, and frustration is reaching a boiling point.
Ying Hop-Soi, a frequent visitor from Seattle, shared the common sentiment: “This is our 3rd trip to Las Vegas in 2 years, and it looks like nothing has changed at this intersection! Meanwhile, a few blocks west, there are potholes the size of craters. Couldn’t they use a few buckets of tar and patch those up while they’re at it?”
Adding to the woes, the crosswalk for pedestrians exiting the bus has been closed for over a year, creating a major inconvenience and safety hazard.
We reached out to Las Vegas Paving for an update on the project timeline and potential worker shortages, but unfortunately, our calls went unanswered.
Chinatownvegas.com would like some answers. This extended construction is an eyesore and a major inconvenience for residents, tourists, and local businesses alike. We urge Las Vegas Paving to address these concerns and provide a clear timeline for completion.
In the meantime, we’ll keep you updated on this ongoing saga. Stay tuned, and remember, navigating the “cone zone” is just part of the Las Vegas experience… (for better or worse!)
Las Vegas Chinatown Gears Up for Yi’s Traditional Korean Beef Soup!
Las Vegas foodies, get ready for a taste sensation! We at Chinatownvegas.com were the first to break the exciting news back in March of 2023 about the arrival of Yi’s Traditional Korean Beef Soup, a beloved family-owned chain from Washington state.
This highly anticipated restaurant is finally nearing its grand opening and is now slated for late July/early Aigust 2024. Renowned for their slow-simmered Korean beef bone soup (Seolleongtang), Yi’s promises to bring a taste of Korean comfort food tradition to Las Vegas Chinatown.
A Sneak Peek at Yi’s Las Vegas Location:
As construction inches closer to completion, we can already get a glimpse of what to expect. The photo above shows the exciting progress on the restaurant’s exterior. Look closely, and you can even see a peek of the upcoming signage in the upper left hand corner.
Stay Tuned for Even More!
We at Chinatownvegas.com are thrilled to welcome Yi’s Traditional Korean Beef Soup to the neighborhood! We’ll be bringing you updates on the restaurant’s interior, menu details, and the official grand opening date as soon as they become available.
In the meantime, you can visit their Washington state location’s Yelp page to learn more about their menu and rave reviews.
