Claypot Cravings Satisfied: Yummy Rice Reopens Next Week
Over at the bustling Shanghai Plaza, exciting news awaits fans of Hong Kong-style clay pot cuisine. The beloved Yummy Rice is still enjoying a well-deserved vacation, but the wait is almost over. They’ll be firing up those delicious clay pots again on Monday, March 5th. Get ready to satisfy your cravings for their signature sizzling dishes.
Claypots are traditional cooking vessels made from porous, unglazed, or glazed clay. They’ve been used for centuries around the world, known for their ability to slow-cook and steam food gently, resulting in tender textures and concentrated flavors. The porous nature of the clay allows moisture to be absorbed and released gradually, creating a unique cooking environment that requires minimal additional fats or liquids.
Arville Square Updates: Farewells and New Possibilities
Change is in the air at Arville Square. Unfortunately, we’ve recently witnessed the closure of two restaurants: Hell’s Chicken and Goldwater. While it’s always disappointing to see businesses close their doors, these departures also create openings for exciting new concepts to join this vibrant culinary destination.
We send our best wishes to the teams behind Hell’s Chicken and Goldwater, and we eagerly anticipate the next chapter for these spaces in Arville Square. Stay tuned to “This Week in Chinatown” for future updates on what new flavors might arrive to fill these vacancies.

Dish of the Week: Experience Authentic Japanese Mornings at Ichiza
Chinatown’s culinary landscape offers hidden gems, and this week’s spotlight shines on Ichiza’s traditional Japanese breakfast. Step into the original Ichiza location and transport yourself to the cozy kitchens of Japan with their “Asa-Gohan” (breakfast).
A Taste of Tradition: Ichiza brings the simplicity and wholesome flavors of Japanese home cooking to your morning. Their breakfast typically features perfectly grilled fish, steaming miso soup, fluffy white rice, and an array of traditional side dishes.
Izakaya Ambiance: Unlike a serene tea ceremony, Ichiza’s vibrant izakaya atmosphere adds energy to your morning. Share the space with other early birds and enjoy the sounds of a lively kitchen.
Why You’ll Love It: Ichiza’s breakfast is a delicious adventure for those wanting to step beyond standard breakfast fare. It’s nourishing, comforting, and a unique way to start your day in Chinatown.
Pro-Tip: The restaurant closes after Wednesday morning breakfast and reopens on Thursday at 5 pm so there is no breakfast served on Thursdays
