📰 Breaking News: Chinatown’s Future Takes Shape
Mimi Dam Set to Take Over Multiple Spaces at Golden Spring Plaza
LAS VEGAS, NV – Chinatown is buzzing with unconfirmed reports this week that Korean traditional gourmet concept Mimi Dam is finally moving forward with its long-anticipated Las Vegas debut, acquiring the leases for two prominent restaurant spaces on Spring Mountain Road.
Sources indicate that Mimi Dam is poised to take over the now-vacant locations of Jong-Ro Chicken (5865 Spring Mountain Rd Ste 140) and the nearby Japanese BBQ spot, Shin Yakiniku (5865 Spring Mountain Rd Ste 145), in what would be a significant multi-unit consolidation within the Golden Spring Plaza.
Both Jong-Ro Chicken and Shin Yakiniku have been closed for months, as we first reported when the closures were announced. While we have not received 100% official confirmation from the restaurant group or the property managers, multiple industry sources suggest the deal is essentially done and Mimi Dam’s arrival is definite.

The commercial building in Chinatown, Las Vegas, that is slated to become the future home of MIMIDam.
History Repeats (and Finally Delivers?)
For long-time observers of the Las Vegas dining scene, this news represents the potential culmination of years of rumors. Mimi Dam was originally announced for the Golden Spring Plaza back in 2019, positioned as a major new traditional Korean restaurant alongside Napal Baji Pub.
The brand’s own website (mimidam.com) has been static for years, featuring an outdated 2020 “Coming Soon” message and a schedule referencing construction that never seemed to end, leaving many to believe the project was abandoned.
Now, it appears the Korean brand—known internationally for high-quality dishes like King Galbitang (hearty beef rib soup) and Hamheung Cold Noodles (Naengmyeon) at its Seoul locations—is making a decisive move to enter the hyper-competitive Las Vegas Chinatown market.
What This Means for Golden Spring Plaza
The arrival of Mimi Dam marks a major shift for the center at 5865 Spring Mountain Road.
Jong-Ro Chicken, which operated in Suite 140 as a popular Korean fried chicken concept, closed earlier this year. Online delivery listings confirmed the shutdown, and our prior reporting covered the transition.
Shin Yakiniku, in Suite 145, offered an authentic Japanese BBQ experience but has also been shuttered for months. The departure of both businesses paves the way for one large Mimi Dam establishment, significantly changing the tenancy and culinary focus of the Golden Spring Plaza.
If the reports are true, the consolidation of these two large suites will give Mimi Dam the substantial footprint necessary to create the kind of flagship “Korean Traditional Gourmet Food” experience the brand is known for.
We will continue to track this story and provide updates on Mimi Dam’s official opening plans as soon as they are announced. 🤔 What do you think—hype or just rumors? Share with #ChinatownVegasVibes!
Chinatown Redevelopment Officially Begins Monday
🚧 The long-anticipated Chinatown Redevelopment officially kicks off this Monday, October 27, 2025, with the start of the Spring Mountain Road Phase I Pedestrian Crossing Signal Project.
This first step in revitalizing the Spring Mountain Corridor focuses on improving safety between Spring Mountain Road and Arville Street. Expect immediate construction activity this week, including 24-hour lane restrictions to accommodate the work.
Phase I will install a new pedestrian crossing signal and introduce vital ADA-compliant median and sidewalk upgrades. Though it may bring temporary inconvenience, the project marks an important milestone in Clark County’s effort to create a safer, more walkable, and culturally vibrant Chinatown.

📜 Looking Back

A look back at time of Las Vegas Chinatown
By This Week in Chinatown Staff
Ichiza: Las Vegas’s First Izakaya Sparks a Culinary Revolution
In 2001, Ichiza opened its doors at 4355 Spring Mountain Rd, Ste. 205, Las Vegas, NV 89102, becoming the first izakaya in Las Vegas and igniting Chinatown’s rise as a dining destination.
Pioneering a New Scene
With its handwritten wall menus and lively atmosphere, Ichiza introduced locals to Japanese pub culture, serving small plates like yakitori skewers, sizzling curries, and fresh sashimi. This trailblazing spot inspired a wave of Japanese eateries, shaping Chinatown’s vibrant culinary identity. Its influence endures, drawing crowds for late-night dining and authentic flavors. [Insert link text]
A Breakfast Legacy
Ichiza remains Las Vegas’s only restaurant offering authentic Japanese Teishoku breakfasts, with sets like Saba Miso and Ochazuke ($12–$18). These daily meals, rooted in Japan’s home-style tradition, cemented Ichiza’s role as a cultural cornerstone, blending heritage with Vegas flair.

🚧 Chinatown Gripes
Chinatown’s Road Rage: Why Nothing Ever Changes
The gripes are back because the problems never left! Last week’s traffic chaos is this week’s reality, and the lack of action is strangling our vibrant commercial district. The recent crash near Decatur and Spring Mountain wasn’t just an accident—it was a diagnostic test proving our infrastructure is critically ill. When one fender-bender can paralyze the heart of Chinatown, we have a chronic capacity disaster.
Every day, these persistent road failures don’t just annoy drivers; they put a chokehold on commerce, costing businesses time and money by blocking access to paying customers.
Here’s the frustrating rundown of the same old issues that demand immediate fixes:
- 🚀 Dangerously High Speed Limit: Endangers pedestrians in a busy, dense corridor.
- ↩️ Strip Mall Left Turns: Turn pockets into death traps and create unnecessary bottlenecks across multiple lanes.
- 🕳️ Crater Potholes: A constant financial drain, damaging tires and alignment.
- ⏱️ Erratic Traffic Light Timers: The inconsistent stop-and-go that adds five minutes to every trip.
- 🚌 Illogical Bus Stop Placement: Bus stops that actively create traffic by forcing cars into one lane at the worst possible spots.
- 🏎️ F1-Related Lane Closures: Ongoing brutal delays on Eastbound Spring Mountain near the Strip.
The chaos is not new, but our tolerance for it should be zero. It’s time for officials to stop treating these issues as minor nuisances and recognize them as an economic drain and a safety hazard.
