Welcome to This Week in Chinatown!
This week, we close out our Chinatown 20 series with the final four creators — @antonio_loves_wings, @brandonfromvegas, @dongkyuverymuch, and @vegasbythebite — all of whom are actively shining a light on the corridor’s food, culture, and everyday discoveries. Their work continues to help locals and visitors alike find the real heartbeat of Spring Mountain Road.
Meanwhile, major momentum is building: we’re launching our new weekly video series with host Ruby Anne (premiering May 11), the Lamaii team is bringing a fresh Thai dessert concept to the former Crown Bakery space, and crypto voice Tiffany Fong just dropped by KROK and called it some of the best food she’s had in Vegas. Chinatown is moving fast — and we’re here for every bite, every story, and every step forward.

🚨 BREAKING: Chinatown Vegas Expands Into Video with New Weekly Series Hosted by Ruby Anne

Local influencer Ruby Anne covers Chinatown in our weekly video, This Week in Chinatown
The news is no longer just written—it’s on the ground.
As the Spring Mountain corridor continues its rapid evolution, Chinatown Vegas is taking the next step in how this neighborhood is covered.
We are officially launching a weekly video series, debuting Tuesday, May 11th, hosted by Ruby Anne.
While This Week in Chinatown remains your Monday source for breaking news, exclusives, and deep dives, this new Tuesday series brings those stories to life—on location, in real time, and inside the spaces shaping the corridor.
From first bites at new openings to walking tours across one of the most dynamic dining districts in the country, this marks a major expansion in how Chinatown is experienced and documented.
With more than 248 verified restaurants across a 3-mile stretch, there’s no better way to capture the energy than on the ground.
🎥 What to expect every Tuesday:
First Looks & Walkthroughs – Inside the corridor’s newest and most anticipated openings
On-the-Ground Updates – Real-time coverage of events, development, and breaking stories
Community Spotlights – The chefs, creators, and business owners driving Chinatown forward
The first episode premieres Tuesday, May 11th, on our YouTube channel.
Follow along and be part of the next chapter of Chinatown Vegas coverage.
🚨 BREAKING: Lamaii Team Bringing Thai Dessert Concept to Former Crown Bakery Space
A new Thai dessert concept connected to the Lamaii/Lamoon team appears to be headed to the former Crown Bakery space.
We’re hearing that the team behind Lamaii, one of Chinatown’s most acclaimed Thai restaurants, is preparing to debut a new concept called Bee Dessert Atelier at 4355 Spring Mountain Rd., Suite 207—taking over the longtime Crown Bakery location in the heart of the corridor.
While an official announcement has not yet been made, this is 100% tied to the Lamaii team, marking a major expansion into the dessert category for one of the neighborhood’s most respected operators.
Early branding points toward a more elevated direction, with the concept centered around “Thai desserts, reimagined.” That suggests a refined, modern take on traditional sweets—potentially something closer to a dessert atelier experience than a typical bakery.
The shift is also significant for the space itself. Crown Bakery had long been a go-to for Korean pastries and café culture, and its transformation into a Thai dessert concept reflects the continued evolution of Spring Mountain Road into a more diverse and experience-driven dining corridor.
No opening date has been confirmed yet, but this is shaping up to be one of the more intriguing upcoming additions to Chinatown.
We’ll stay on it.
🚨 News: Tiffany Fong Visits KROK

Tiffany Fong and her boyfriend with KROK Chef Owner TK.
Another major voice just tapped into the Chinatown scene.
Tiffany Fong—known for her high-profile coverage of the crypto world, including the FTX saga—recently stopped by KROK on Spring Mountain Road. Her verdict?
🔥 “Best food we had in Vegas.”
From crab-loaded fried rice to Khao Soi and mango sticky rice, the visit highlights a growing trend: out-of-town creators are increasingly turning their attention to Chinatown’s rapidly evolving dining corridor.

Community Corner
🔥 A Different Kind of Hot Pot Finds Its Place in Chinatown
Chinatown Las Vegas continues to evolve—not just through new openings, but through concepts that challenge expectations.
One of the latest examples is Pot on Fire, a Taiwanese personal hot pot concept bringing a more individualized dining experience to the Spring Mountain corridor. In a district where all-you-can-eat hot pot has long dominated, this approach shifts the focus to personal pots, curated broths, and a more tailored meal for each guest.
While subtle, that difference matters.

A look at Taiwanese-style personal hot pot at Pot on Fire in Chinatown Las Vegas, featuring rich broths, premium meats, and customizable ingredients.
It reflects a broader trend we’re seeing across Chinatown: businesses aren’t just competing on volume anymore—they’re finding ways to stand out through identity, experience, and cultural specificity.
Early feedback from the community has been positive, with diners highlighting the flavors, approachable pricing, and relaxed atmosphere. It’s another reminder that even in one of the most competitive dining corridors in the country, there’s still room for new ideas to take hold.
We’ll be keeping a close eye on how this concept develops in the weeks ahead.
💡 Pro Tip: If you’re used to sharing a large hot pot with a group, this is a completely different experience—each person builds their own, making it a great option for smaller groups or solo dining.
Looking Back
🍜 LOOKING BACK: When Monta Ramen First Changed the Game
Before ramen lines wrapped around plazas… before national food critics turned their attention to Spring Mountain… there was a small shop quietly setting the standard: Monta Ramen.
We went back to one of its very first Yelp reviews from June 19, 2010, and it reads like a time capsule of the moment Chinatown’s ramen scene truly arrived:
“I am blown away by this place. It is like the holy grail from Tanpopo… the ramen is cooked al dente, the pork slices are placed carefully, the soup is hot and the broth is flavorful… I knew this place was it when I ate everything and drank the broth to the bottom of the bowl.”
The reviewer even compares the experience to Tampopo, the cult classic that helped define ramen culture globally—high praise for what was, at the time, still a relatively under-the-radar Chinatown spot.
They called out details that would later become standard expectations across the corridor:
Al dente noodles
Layered, intentional toppings
Deep, drink-to-the-last-drop broths
Back then, prices were under $10, the menu was tight, and the vibe was exactly what we now call a “hole-in-the-wall gem.” Today, that same attention to craft is what defines Chinatown’s ramen explosion.
Monta didn’t just serve ramen—it helped set the blueprint.

Chinatown Gripes
😤 The Chinatown Gripes: Still the Same Song. Still Singing It.
Nothing has changed. So we’re saying it again — louder, with more conviction, and this time, with receipts on the way.
Here’s the recurring rundown that refuses to go away:
🚀 The Speed Limit Is Still Too High
Spring Mountain Road is not a highway. It is a dense, high-foot-traffic commercial corridor with hundreds of restaurants, businesses, and people crossing on foot every single day. The good news — as part of Phase 2 of the Inspiring Spring Mountain Redevelopment Plan, the speed limit will finally be reduced to 35 MPH. This cannot come soon enough. Until that day arrives, the danger is real and the urgency is now.
🕳️ Ferocious Potholes
“Ferocious” is still the only word that fits. The craters along our north-south arteries are legendary for all the wrong reasons. Patch jobs have come and gone. The potholes outlast them all. Spring Mountain Road should not double as an off-road course.
🚦 Badly Timed Traffic Signals
Out of sync. Causing unnecessary stops, unnecessary idling, and unnecessary frustration. A 1.5-mile stretch of Spring Mountain should not require 25 minutes of your life. The timers need a full overhaul — not a tweak, an overhaul.
🚶 Ineffective Pedestrian Signals
Drivers aren’t slowing down enough. Beacons that barely register, crosswalks that feel like a leap of faith, and signals that don’t command the respect they should. Pedestrian safety is not optional.
🚌 Awkward Bus Stops & Pick-Up Spots
Blocking lanes. Inconveniencing customers. Creating unnecessary bottlenecks in an already congested corridor. The placement makes no sense, and it hasn’t made sense for a long time.
↩️ Left Turns Out of Strip Malls — Still a Menace
We’ve said it until we’re hoarse. Crossing multiple lanes of oncoming traffic just to head east is dangerous, chaotic, and unnecessary. Restrict the turns. Redesign the exits. Something has to give.
📹 Reminder: Our New Video Series Launches May 12 — And It Leads the Newsletter.
If you caught it at the top of this week’s newsletter, you already know — This Week in Chinatown is launching its new video series on May 12, and it will be featured at the top of every issue going forward. The Gripes are getting their close-up first. From the ferocious potholes to the dangerous pedestrian crossings to the signal chaos choking commerce on Spring Mountain, we’re bringing a camera to the corridor and showing you exactly what we’ve been describing week after week. No more just reading about it. You’ll see it.
May 12. Top of the newsletter. Don’t miss it. 🎥🏮
