Chinatown Shines on Local TV: Two Major Features Last Week
It was a massive week for Chinatown media coverage! On Monday, May 4, 2026, both KROK Thai and Zen Spa & Massage were spotlighted in prominent local television segments.
KROK Thai on FOX5 Vegas
KROK Thai was highlighted for its role in “heating up” the Chinatown dining scene. The segment celebrated the restaurant’s high-energy social atmosphere and creative fusion dishes, with special focus on their signature KROK-cajete — an Asian-inspired take on guacamole.
The feature aired as part of Cinco de Mayo coverage, showcasing how KROK blends traditional Thai flavors with modern, shareable concepts that resonate with the Las Vegas crowd.
Zen Spa & Massage on 8 News Now (Las Vegas Now)
Following its recent rebranding, Zen Spa & Massage was featured as a premier destination for Mother’s Day gifts. Owner Mo Chen emphasized the value of “experience-based” gifts, encouraging viewers to treat moms to a full day of relaxation and wellness rather than just a physical gift.
The segment highlighted Zen’s evolution into a full-service wellness destination and its trusted location on the Spring Mountain corridor.

Chinatown Spotlight
🍜 The Dish: Clay Pot Potato Noodles ($砂锅土豆粉$) at Xiang Wei Xuan
If you’ve never had “Potato Noodles,” they aren’t your typical wheat or rice variety. Made from potato starch, they have a signature “QQ” texture—meaning they are incredibly bouncy, chewy, and slightly translucent.
What Makes It Special at Xiang Wei Xuan:
- The Broth: Unlike the dry, spicy stir-fries the restaurant is known for, this dish centers on a rich, piping-hot broth served in a traditional clay pot to retain heat.
- The Variety: They are offering three distinct flavor profiles: Mala Flavor ($麻辣$): The classic numbing, spicy kick. Fragrant Spicy ($香辣$): A savory, aromatic heat. Clear Broth ($清汤$): For those who want to appreciate the pure umami and noodle texture.
- The “Toppings”: True to its street-style roots, the pot is packed with crispy pork (guozha), quail eggs, shredded kelp, tofu skin, enoki mushrooms, and bean sprouts.
Perfect for cool spring evenings or when you’re craving something warm, hearty, and fun to share.

Coming Soon: Chinatown’s Scene Heats Up
The first chapter of the video series officially begins this Tuesday with a special “Episode 0” prequel. This introductory installment will serve as the gateway to the new format, setting the stage and giving viewers a first look at the on-the-ground energy that makes the Spring Mountain corridor so unique. It’s the perfect way to bridge the gap between the traditional written news and the new visual storytelling style.

Ruby Anne is filming the new “This Week in Chinatown” video series at Chinatown Plaza in Las Vegas.
Starting the following week, the series will move into its permanent rhythm: the video will drop every Tuesday to reflect and expand upon the “online version” published the previous day. This one-two punch ensures that the community gets the core news and exclusives on Monday, followed by a deeper, cinematic dive into the people, flavors, and events of Chinatown 24 hours later.
Catch & Fire Prepares to Ignite Arville Street
The transformation of the former Sea Salt Live Sashimi space is nearly complete as Catch & Fire gears up for its highly anticipated debut. The bold red-and-blue facade and illuminated “flaming” signage have already become a focal point in Shan Tau Square, signaling the arrival of a new culinary powerhouse. With construction finalized and the interior prep in the home stretch, we can confirm that a soft opening is imminent.
This fresh concept is set to redefine the local dining experience by blending two crowd favorites: Premium AYCE Sushi and Charcoal-Grilled Skewers. The addition of authentic robata-style cooking over real charcoal promises to bring an aromatic, smoky depth to the Arville corridor that has been missing since the previous tenant’s departure.
Keep your eyes on this space—and our upcoming video series—for the official opening date. If you’ve been craving a high-energy spot that balances the precision of fresh sashimi with the bold flavors of the grill, Catch & Fire is about to become your new regular haunt.
Weather: Chinatown Weather Post – May 11–17, 2026
☀️ Las Vegas is officially turning up the heat this week, with triple-digit temperatures kicking off Monday and Tuesday before a brief midweek cooldown brings some relief. Expect sunny skies across the board, low humidity, and classic early-summer desert conditions throughout the Chinatown corridor.
Monday and Tuesday will be the hottest days of the week, with highs soaring to 103° and 102°. If you’re planning to explore Spring Mountain Road during the afternoon, hydration and shaded stops are highly recommended. Thankfully, evenings remain much more comfortable for late-night dining, karaoke runs, dessert hopping, and lounge visits.
By Wednesday and Thursday, temperatures ease back into the upper 80s and low 90s, making it the best window of the week for daytime plaza walks, patio dining, and exploring new openings around Chinatown. The weekend heats back up into the mid-90s, but sunny skies continue with virtually no chance of rain.
🌤️ Day-by-Day Outlook
- Mon 11: 103° / 74° — Sunny
- Tue 12: 102° / 75° — Mostly Sunny
- Wed 13: 94° / 67° — Mostly Sunny
- Thu 14: 89° / 66° — Sunny
- Fri 15: 92° / 68° — Sunny
- Sat 16: 96° / 70° — Sunny
- Sun 17: 96° / 70° — Sunny
💡 Pro Tip: This is prime late-night Chinatown weather. Consider visiting after sunset when the neon lights come alive, patios cool down, and the corridor feels especially vibrant. Perfect week for midnight boba runs, karaoke sessions, cocktail lounges, and late-night eats.
Community Corner
🤝 May is Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month — a time to recognize and celebrate the cultures, traditions, entrepreneurs, artists, families, and community leaders who continue shaping Las Vegas in meaningful ways every single day.
Few places reflect that spirit more visibly than Chinatown Las Vegas.
What began decades ago as a small collection of businesses along Spring Mountain Road has evolved into one of the most dynamic and diverse cultural corridors in the country — representing not only Chinese culture, but also Korean, Japanese, Vietnamese, Filipino, Thai, Taiwanese, Hawaiian, and many other Asian and Pacific Islander communities.
Today, Chinatown is more than just a dining destination. It’s a gathering place. A launching pad for small businesses. A cultural bridge connecting locals and visitors through food, art, language, music, and shared experiences.
Throughout the month, many businesses across the corridor are showcasing special menus, community events, performances, and celebrations highlighting the diversity that makes Chinatown so unique. Whether you’re supporting a longtime family-owned restaurant, discovering a new café, attending a cultural event, or simply exploring the neighborhood, every visit helps support the local community that continues driving Chinatown forward.
As always, we encourage everyone to shop local, support small businesses, and celebrate the incredible diversity that makes Chinatown Las Vegas one of the city’s most vibrant neighborhoods.
Looking Back
Tous Les Jours Sets the Stage for a New Flagship Experience
The buzz surrounding the former Big Lots space is reaching a fever pitch as Tous Les Jours prepares to anchor the site with its second Las Vegas location. Far from a standard expansion, this French-Asian bakery is being designed as a true flagship destination. Building on the reputation of its South Rainbow Boulevard predecessor, the new site will feature an expansive dining area and a dedicated lounge, providing a refined backdrop for its signature artisan breads, handcrafted beverages, and meticulous pastries.

The former Big Lot store before being converted into Tous Les Jour
What makes this project particularly compelling are the whispers of what lies beyond the flour and sugar. The community remains captivated by rumors of a hidden speakeasy—potentially under separate management—nestled behind the bakery, alongside a neighboring steakhouse concept. This multi-layered approach to the space suggests a unique fusion of morning indulgence and late-night intrigue, making it one of the most anticipated developments on the horizon.
While an official launch date hasn’t been set, insiders are pointing toward a grand opening in the November–December window. If these timelines hold, the end of the year will bring a new level of culinary sophistication to the area. For now, we continue to watch the transformation of this massive space, where the promise of exceptional flavors and “hidden” surprises is setting the stage for a standout addition to our local landscape.
Chinatown Gripes
After years of us voicing frustrations here in “Chinatown Gripes,” our wishes have finally come true — someone with a much bigger microphone has echoed the concerns.
FOX5’s Sophia Bruinisma recently spotlighted longstanding frustrations surrounding Spring Mountain Road’s rough driving conditions, potholes, and aging infrastructure — concerns many Chinatown businesses and visitors have voiced for years.
As Chinatown continues to evolve into one of the country’s busiest and most dynamic Asian dining corridors, many hope that infrastructure improvements can finally catch up with the area’s rapid growth. FOX5’s report highlighted the ongoing impact of potholes and deteriorating road conditions on drivers, customers, and local businesses throughout the corridor.
The conversation also comes as Clark County moves forward with portions of the broader Chinatown Redevelopment Project, including roadway resurfacing and infrastructure upgrades planned in phases along Spring Mountain Road.
For longtime readers of This Week in Chinatown, these concerns may sound familiar. From rough pavement and poorly timed traffic signals to dangerous pedestrian crossings and aging streetscape issues, “Chinatown Gripes” has continued documenting many of the quality-of-life challenges facing the corridor as it grows.
The good news? The issues are increasingly getting wider public attention — and many businesses hope that attention leads to meaningful long-term improvements for one of Las Vegas’ most important cultural and culinary districts.
