Welcome to This Week in Chinatown!
Another sizzling week in the neighborhood we love. From major restaurant confirmations and live music nights that keep the energy high to holistic wellness spots that help us stay balanced in the desert heat, Chinatown continues to show why it’s one of Las Vegas’ most dynamic and culturally rich destinations. Whether you’re chasing the latest xiao long bao, hunting for summer produce deals, or planning a night out with live performances, there’s something here for every vibe and every budget. Let’s dive in.
Breaking News
ChinatownVegas.com has confirmed that the team behind Royale Frites, the new concept replacing the former KARÉ space at Shanghai Plaza, is the same ownership group behind the Weera Thai restaurant brand. While the restaurant’s menu and opening timeline have yet to be announced, the confirmation answers one of the biggest questions surrounding the upcoming concept as construction continues.
Royale Frites joins a growing list of new restaurants preparing to open along the Spring Mountain Road corridor. ChinatownVegas.com will continue following the project’s progress and provide updates as additional details, including an opening date and menu, become available.
🍜 Spotlight: Pho Ga Bac Bac — Comfort in a Bowl, 24 Hours a Day
While Spring Mountain Road is world-renowned for its sizzling K-BBQ and legendary xiao long bao, there is a quieter, equally spectacular culinary art thriving in the corridor. This week, we are shining a bright light on Pho Ga Bac Bac, a beloved neighborhood gem that has been winning over local foodies with its hyper-focused, masterfully executed Vietnamese chicken noodle soup and exceptionally warm hospitality. Even better? They are open 24 hours a day, making them the ultimate destination for a comforting meal at any hour.
In a sea of heavy dining options, Pho Ga Bac Bac offers a masterclass in clean, soul-warming flavors. Unlike beef-based phở, a truly authentic northern-style phở gà requires absolute precision. The chefs here have perfected the craft, simmering a golden broth low and slow to capture the pure essence of chicken without a hint of greasiness. Every generous bowl comes loaded with tender, hand-shredded chicken, silky rice noodles, and a mountain of fresh herbs—including razor-thin slices of kaffir lime leaves that cut through the richness with a bright, citrusy punch.
Eating steaming-hot soup at the peak of a Las Vegas summer might sound bold, but a clean, lighter option like phở gà is exactly what your body craves to reset and hydrate. If you want to mix things up, their menu offers incredible variations alongside the classic soup, including dry noodle versions tossed in a savory house sauce and served with a side of liquid-gold broth for dipping.

Pro Tip: The Lemongrass Grilled Chicken Pho Ga Nuong Sa is one of the tastiest soups in all of Chinatown!
In a neighborhood that moves at lightning speed with massive restaurant rollouts, Pho Ga Bac Bac stands out as a reliable, 24/7 anchor of tradition. It is a family-fueled reminder of why the Spring Mountain community feels like home—comforting food, deeply genuine service, and a passion for the heritage on the plate. Drop in any time of day or night, grab a table, and escape the heat. Just remember to tell them you saw them featured right here in This Week in Chinatown!

📍 The Holistic Wellness Check-In
Looking to completely reset your health and recovery routine without just hitting a standard commercial pharmacy? The Spring Mountain corridor isn’t just a world-class dining destination; it is also home to some of the most respected holistic health practitioners and traditional clinics in the state. Tucked away in our local plazas are decades of deep medical heritage that neighbors fly across the country to access.
If you’re looking for a comprehensive full-body tune-up, First Acu & Herb Clinic over at the A&M Plaza is an absolute staple. The clinic is led by Dr. Ping Xu, an OMD (Oriental Medicine Doctor) who also serves as the President of the Nevada Oriental Medicine Association, meaning you are getting care from one of the top minds in the field.
Further down the road, if custom-blended herbal detox tinctures, specialized cupping, or targeted pain relief are more your speed, map a trip to see Dr. Joy at JoyHealth Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine Clinic near the west end of the corridor. Her personalized, highly targeted blends are legendary for knocking out chronic fatigue and stress. Supporting these independent local clinics does more than just boost your personal wellness—it keeps our neighborhood’s rich, traditional healing heritage thriving right here in the community.

Shop Local: A Feast of Fresh Deals
🛒 Shop Local
This week’s grocery ads are packed with fresh summer produce, quality meats, and seafood at prices worth planning a meal around. Here are some of the best values we found at two of Chinatown’s most popular markets.
99 Ranch Market
🥭 Ataulfo Mangoes — 3 for $2.99
One of the sweetest mango varieties you’ll find all summer. Look for fruit that gives slightly when gently squeezed and has a fragrant aroma near the stem. They’re delicious fresh, blended into smoothies, or diced into a salsa for grilled fish or tacos.
🍉 Mini Seedless Watermelon — $2.99 each
A summer staple at an excellent price. Choose one that feels heavy for its size and has a creamy yellow field spot where it rested on the ground—both are signs of a sweet, juicy melon. Chill it overnight for one of the easiest ways to cool off during a Las Vegas summer.
🥒 Japanese Cucumbers — $1.49/lb
Thinner, crispier, and less bitter than traditional cucumbers, Japanese cucumbers are perfect for quick salads or homemade pickles. Pick firm cucumbers with smooth, unwrinkled skin, then toss them with rice vinegar, sesame oil, and a sprinkle of sesame seeds for a refreshing side dish.
🍑 Yellow Peaches — $1.49/lb
Nothing says summer quite like a perfectly ripe peach. Choose fruit with a sweet aroma that yields slightly when pressed. Enjoy them fresh, grilled alongside pork chops, or sliced over yogurt and granola for breakfast.
168 Market
🍒 Northwest Cherries — $2.99/lb
Cherry season is short, making this one of the week’s standout bargains. Look for glossy, firm cherries with bright green stems still attached—they’ll have the best flavor and texture. They’re perfect for snacking, baking into cobblers, or serving chilled on a hot afternoon.
🥩 USDA Choice Boneless Beef Chuck Roast — $5.99/lb
A well-marbled chuck roast shines when cooked low and slow. Simmer it with onions, carrots, and potatoes for a comforting dinner, or shred the leftovers for tacos, sandwiches, or rice bowls the next day. It’s an excellent value for feeding the whole family.
🦐 Head-On White Shrimp — $4.99/lb
Buying shrimp with the heads on helps preserve their natural sweetness and adds incredible flavor when making homemade seafood stock. Look for shrimp with firm shells and a fresh ocean scent, then grill, steam, or stir-fry them for an easy weeknight meal.
Coming Soon: Chinatown’s Scene Heats Up
Coming Soon to Las Vegas Chinatown
Leading the next wave of development is a major headline announcement set to reshape the corridor.
Supreme Dumplings has been confirmed for the project, adding another major xiao long bao destination to Chinatown’s growing food scene. It also brings a new Shanghainese competitor into the mix alongside Shanghai Taste. We’ll be digging deeper into this one and sharing more details as they come in.
In an exclusive interview with This Week in Chinatown host Ruby Anne a few weeks ago, ownership officially confirmed that the legendary, Michelin-recognized Lao Sze Chuan will return to Las Vegas as the flagship anchor tenant of a new 3.2-acre plaza on Spring Mountain Road, located between Polaris and Procion. ChinatownVegas.com also broke the news on Chubby World joining the exciting lineup for the same development. Groundbreaking is scheduled to begin this fall, marking a significant milestone in the continued evolution of Chinatown’s dining and cultural landscape.
Adding to the momentum, a strong lineup of new restaurant concepts is preparing to debut across the district. Among the upcoming additions are Kyuramen, Nagaiki Ramen, 888 Sushi & Robata, Win Kee HK BBQ, Harbour AYCE Seafood Hot Pot, and Sea Harbour—each bringing a distinct regional flavor and dining experience that reflects Chinatown’s ongoing culinary expansion.
Chinatown Gripes
Recent reporting by KLAS 8 News Now highlighted a concern many Chinatown business owners have been discussing for months: vehicle break-ins in commercial parking lots. While the overwhelming majority of visits to Chinatown are safe and enjoyable, these incidents continue to frustrate both merchants and customers and underscore the need for stronger prevention efforts.
Business owners are encouraging continued collaboration between property owners, law enforcement, and the community to improve lighting, expand camera coverage, and increase patrols where needed. As Chinatown continues to grow as one of Las Vegas’ premier dining and cultural destinations, ensuring visitors have a positive experience—from arrival to departure—should remain a shared priority.
And while we’re making our wish list, we’ll once again advocate for a 35 MPH speed limit along Spring Mountain Road, better-timed traffic signals, safer and more convenient bus stop locations, no left-turn access out of shopping plazas, and—perhaps most noticeably—finally fixing the potholes that continue to rattle vehicles across the corridor. Remember our ongoing contest? If you can drive from Jones Boulevard to Decatur Boulevard on Spring Mountain Road without throwing out your back or damaging your car because of neglected pavement… You win an almond cookie. 🍪
Looking Back
🔙 Looking Back: The Vote That Unlocked Chinatown 2.0
Part of what makes our Chinatown district so electrifying today is how fast it’s moving. But the rapid private development and high-profile openings we’re tracking every week didn’t happen by accident. They trace back to a massive structural turning point just a short time ago: December 17, 2025.
On that day, the Clark County Commission officially approved the Inspiring Spring Mountain Redevelopment Plan.
For decades, the corridor thrived on pure entrepreneurial energy despite outdated infrastructure—cluttered sidewalks, minimal dark-hour lighting, and notoriously risky pedestrian crossings. By officially designating a 77-acre chunk of Chinatown as a redevelopment area, the county finally flipped the script from talking about Spring Mountain’s bottlenecks to actively fixing them.
Then vs. Now: The Shift
- • Outdated, vehicle-centric blocks → Shaded, walkable pedestrian promenades.
- • Dark-hour safety concerns → Smart city tech, security networks, and downward lighting.
- • Blighted infrastructure → Matching grant funds for culturally preserved facades.
This vote effectively laid the blueprint for “placekeeping”—balancing ultra-modern infrastructure with strict cultural preservation. It’s the exact catalyst that opened the floodgates for current projects like the Pacifica Vegas development and the massive wave of concepts in active buildout right now.
