This Week in Chinatown: December 1, 2024
We hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving and welcome to the final month 2024! As the holidays approach and much of the country braces for a deep chill, Las Vegas offers a sunny escape. This week, Chinatown will enjoy clear skies with daytime temperatures in the mid to upper 60s and nighttime lows in the upper 40s—a perfect setting to explore all the neighborhood has to offer.
A Breath of Fresh Air: Post-Formula 1 Chinatown
As the roar of Formula 1 engines fades into memory, Chinatown is eager to reclaim its unique charm. While the Grand Prix brought global attention and economic gains to some, it was primarily the big-name casinos with their prominently displayed signage that reaped the rewards, shown worldwide during every lap.
For many local businesses and residents in Chinatown, however, the event meant road closures, congestion, and a noticeable dip in foot traffic, creating more disruption than benefit. Now, with the streets quieter and the neighborhood returning to its usual rhythm, it’s time to refocus on the vibrant community that makes Chinatown a cultural gem.
Chinatown is ready to welcome back visitors and locals alike with its diverse dining, shopping, and cultural experiences. Let’s support the businesses that weathered the storm and celebrate the spirit of this resilient neighborhood.
We’re excited to see Chinatown featured in Redfin’s article, “18 Holiday Things to Do in Las Vegas, NV.” As a trusted real estate platform that provides insights into neighborhoods and local experiences, Redfin’s recognition is a meaningful acknowledgment of Las Vegas Chinatown’s unique charm and festive appeal.
Chinatown offers a unique blend of rich cultural experiences, delicious cuisine, and a festive atmosphere that captures the holiday spirit. From dazzling light displays and seasonal decorations to captivating performances and one-of-a-kind shopping, there’s truly something for everyone to enjoy.
This holiday season, we invite you to discover why Chinatown is such a beloved part of Las Vegas. Come for the magic, stay for the memories!

Black Friday Frenzy: Massive Lines in Chinatown
Black Friday in Chinatown was a sight, with hundreds upon hundreds of eager shoppers forming massive lines at Shanghai Plaza. The stars of the show? 888 Collectibles and Koma Co, two incredibly popular stores on the second floor, drew die-hard fans and collectors from all over the city.
The scene was electric as shoppers, some waiting for hours, lined up for exclusive deals and rare finds. Images of the impressive turnout quickly spread across social media, showcasing Chinatown as a vibrant hub for retail excitement.
Peter Chen, owner of both 888 Collectibles and Koma Co, shared his thoughts with local TV and news outlets:
“I knew it was going to be busy, but not this busy,” Chen said. “Just between our two stores, we filled our entire parking lot.”
888 Collectibles is renowned for its premium selection of trading cards and collectibles, making it a haven for enthusiasts and collectors alike. Meanwhile, Koma Co delights shoppers with a curated collection of lifestyle goods, plushies, and irresistibly charming “kawaii” items.

Special Noodle Brings Hand-Pulled Chinese Lamian to Chinatown
Open in the Former Café Sanuki Spot: Special Noodle Brings Hand-Pulled Lamian Delights to Chinatown’s Dining Scene
Remember the buzz we stirred in March of 2023 about a new Chinese restaurant taking over the former Café Sanuki spot? Well, Chinatown foodies, rejoice! We’re thrilled to announce that Special Noodle has officially soft-opened its doors, and it’s a game-changer for the neighborhood.
After months of anticipation and plenty of noodle-fueled speculation, the wait is finally over. As the first media outlet to break the news of this exciting culinary venture, ChinatownVegas.com has been eagerly following Special Noodle’s journey. We can confirm that the renovations have delivered a bold new addition to Chinatown’s dynamic dining scene.
But this isn’t just another noodle shop—Special Noodle is introducing a cornerstone of Chinese culinary heritage, focusing on lamian, the ancient art of hand-pulled noodles. Unlike ramen, which originated in Japan during the late 19th or early 20th century, lamian dates back over a thousand years to the Tang Dynasty (618–907 AD) in China. This historic noodle-making technique emphasizes skillful hand-pulling to create fresh, chewy noodles of varying thicknesses. It’s a mesmerizing process that showcases the artistry and tradition behind one of China’s most iconic culinary staples.
In a world where ramen dominates the global noodle scene, the arrival of a lamian-focused eatery is a welcome celebration of history and craftsmanship. Special Noodle is bringing this centuries-old tradition into the spotlight, bridging cultural flavors and offering diners an experience that’s both authentic and innovative.
They also have dumplings and dishes from all over China as well. But from what we are told – you go there for the Lamian
So, why not take a step back in time and discover the origins of noodle-making with Lamian? Right around the corner of Spring Mountain and Decatur experience the craftsmanship and flavor that makes Special Noodle the talk of the town. And remember, when it comes to breaking Chinatown’s hottest culinary news, ChinatownVegas.com is always one step ahead!
