Welcome to the latest This Week in Chinatown!
As we dive into the vibrant pulse of our community, we’re excited to highlight the Chinese festivals that have been lighting up the town this season. From the colorful traditions of Lunar New Year celebrations, there’s been no shortage of cultural richness to enjoy. Speaking of festivities, did you catch the Dream Asia Festival downtown? It was a fantastic showcase of Asian culture and flavors—let us know if you’d have loved to see something like that right here in Chinatown! Over at the M Resort, the Asian Night Market also wowed crowds with its irresistible blend of street food and entertainment, offering a taste of Asia.
Now, let’s turn our attention back to the heart of it all—Chinatown itself. Our streets are alive with the sizzle of great food, the rhythm of music, and the thrill of adventure and fun. Whether you’re savoring a steaming bowl of noodles, tapping your feet to live performances, or wandering through our bustling lanes, there’s always something to discover. Join us this week as we celebrate the spirit of Chinatown—where every moment is a chance to experience something extraordinary!

Sushi Ya Closes Permanently at Chinatown Decatur, Sumire to Move In
Sushi Ya, located at 3650 S Decatur Blvd Ste 31, has permanently closed its doors. Nestled in the Chinatown Decatur shopping center, this all-you-can-eat sushi fusion restaurant was a local favorite. Known for its premium, freshest fish selections, dinner sashimi, and unbeatable offerings like all-you-can-drink Sapporo Draft and house sake, Sushi Ya leaves behind a good reputation of affordable indulgence and late-night dining vibes that will be hard to forget.
The reason for Sushi Ya’s closure remains a mystery for now, but the space won’t stay empty long. A new Japanese restaurant, Sumire, is poised to take over the spot in Chinatown Decatur. Details about Sumire are sparse—just the name has surfaced so far—but we’re digging into it. Stay tuned as we uncover more about this transition and bring you the latest on what’s next for this corner of our vibrant dining scene!
