Welcome to This Week in Chinatown!
Early February is hitting that sweet post-Lunar New Year reset—red lanterns still glowing, but the energy is shifting toward fresh starts, lucky rituals, and neighborhood evolution. This week brings Setsubun demon-chasing and Ehomaki fortune rolls at Japan Market Fukuya, a fiery new Sichuan contender in the Purple Building’s revolving door, an exclusive first look at Pho Concept’s modern refresh, killer blues nights at Sand Dollar Lounge, and a deep dive into Griff’s as Chinatown’s upscale pool hall gem. Mild sunny days (highs in the low 70s) make it prime time for Spring Mountain strolls, patio bites, and dodging those legendary potholes. Grab your almond cookie if you survive the full drive without incident. Here’s everything heating up right now.

Breaking News
🌶️ Spicy Hero Moving In, Souperb Bows Out—Another Turn in the Purple Building Revolving Door
Quick pivot at the heart of Chinatown: Souperb Wagyu Hot Pot & Grill (5130 Spring Mountain Rd, Suite 103) has permanently closed its doors. The Japanese-inspired wagyu shabu-shabu and AYCE Korean BBQ spot is out for good—signage and the scene confirm the exit. Farewell to those premium meat feasts!

Spicy Hero Sichuan Cuisine signage is now up at the former Souperb location in Chinatown Las Vegas, signaling a new Chinese dining concept.
Taking over: Spicy Hero Sichuan Cuisine (麻辣江湖), with bold signage already up and construction in full swing. Channeling authentic “Jianghu” spirit—Sichuan’s gritty, bold-flavored, late-night communal dining—expect numbing mala, fiery pots, and shareable street-energy plates. Menu and exact opening date still hush-hush, but hours tease Sun–Thu 11:30 AM–10:30 PM, Fri–Sat extended for late-night spice runs.
Fun local note: This spot sits in the infamous “Purple Building” (the big purple-painted complex at 5130 Spring Mountain Rd, home to T Baar, Sweet Talk, Noodle Man, Fortune, and more). Known around Chinatown as a true revolving door—tenants come and go fast, but the location’s foot traffic keeps the cycle spinning. Souperb’s exit and Spicy Hero’s entry? Just the latest chapter.
Pro Tip: Monitor our socials @chinatownvegas for opening buzz—could be weeks away. Swing by to catch the progress and snag first dibs!
Who’s betting Spicy Hero sticks around longer than most in the Purple Building? Share your takes with #ChinatownVegasVibes 🌶️🏮🔥

Community Corner

Highlighting the people and places that make our Chinatown special.
The energy was undeniable this week as more than 400 neighbors and supporters packed Pickleball Universe for the campaign launch of Minja Yan, a strong advocate for Las Vegas Chinatown who has consistently shown up for the district and its small businesses.
While the event itself was not held in Chinatown, the crowd reflected the community’s growing influence and engagement. The space was filled wall-to-wall with residents—business owners, families, longtime locals, and first-time supporters—gathering with genuine enthusiasm and a shared belief in the future of the area.
The atmosphere was driven by real people and real conversations. No theatrics. No manufactured hype. Just authentic momentum and a clear signal that voters are energized by leadership rooted in community connection and lived experience.
Moments like this are a reminder that grassroots support can’t be faked or filtered. When hundreds of people show up in person, motivated by purpose and trust, it points to something deeper: a movement built on participation, accountability, and vision.
With energy like this, it’s clear—game on.
Looking Back

A look back at the time of Las Vegas Chinatown
📍 Looking Back: Soulo and the Head Spa Trend in Chinatown
A little over four years ago, in August 2021, Soulo Head & Scalp Spa made history as Las Vegas’ first Japanese-style head spa in Chinatown.
At the time, most salons focused on haircuts and coloring. Soulo introduced deep scalp care, therapeutic massage, reflexology, premium Japanese products, and total relaxation in custom chairs—a true wellness-beauty blend that was brand new to many.
What started as one concept sparked a wave: word spread, and scalp/head-spa treatments popped up across Chinatown and beyond. Today, Japanese head spas are a full trend in the Las Vegas beauty scene.
Soulo’s debut quietly shifted expectations for scalp and hair care in our neighborhood—helping turn Chinatown into a self-care destination too.
Pro Tip: If you haven’t tried one, it’s still one of the most underrated ways to unwind after Spring Mountain. Share your favorite head spa spot with #ChinatownVegasVibes 🧖♀️🏮✨
Chinatown Gripes
😤 The Gripes (Still the Same… So We’re Still Saying It)
Nothing’s changed, so we’re repeating until the chorus gets louder:
- Lower the speed limit on Spring Mountain Rd—not a racetrack with all the foot traffic and turns.
- Traffic light timers need an overhaul—out of sync, pure congestion.
- Bus stops/pickup zones in nonsensical spots are blocking lanes and are way too inconvenient for visitors to our businesses
- Ban left turns out of strip malls—constant choke points.
- FIX. THE. POTHOLES. Ferocious and next-level bumpy.
Bright side: Growth means more eyes on fixes—some upgrades happening, but basics lag.
Half-serious contest: Drive full Spring Mountain without losing a mirror, dropping a part, or throwing your back out—win a free almond cookie! 🍪
