This Week in Chinatown: Entering Chinatown 2.0
.
Las Vegas Chinatown isn’t just growing anymore—it’s evolving. From massive new restaurant buildouts to hidden culinary landmarks, the Spring Mountain corridor is entering its most exciting chapter yet.
In Episode 7 of This Week in Chinatown, host Ruby Anne takes us on a tour of the rapid changes reshaping the district, shares an essential parking secret, and highlights a world-class eatery hidden right in plain sight.
Chinatown 2.0: The New Wave of Construction
If you’ve driven down Spring Mountain Road recently, you’ve likely noticed the construction crews. Multiple major restaurant projects are moving forward simultaneously, signaling the arrival of what we call Chinatown 2.0.
Here is a quick look at the major concepts currently in active buildout:
- Kyuramen: The highly anticipated ramen destination continues its extensive interior buildout.
- Win Kee Hong Kong BBQ: Progress is moving fast on this authentic concept inside the bustling Shanghai Plaza.
- Harbour AYCE Seafood Hot Pot: Getting closer by the day to opening its doors for hot pot lovers.
- Bee Dessert Atelier: Transforming the sweet tooth landscape at the former Crown Bakery space.
- 888 Sushi & Robata: The legendary team behind 888 Japanese BBQ is expanding its footprint yet again.
- Mountain View Plaza Updates: Work continues on a brand-new Japanese omelet restaurant alongside an upcoming boutique wine bar and tasting room.
The Pacific Asian Plaza Parking Hack
This week’s Chinatown Spotlight takes us to a true neighborhood landmark: the Pacific Asian Plaza. Known for its incredible variety of shops and regional dining, it’s a premier destination that can get incredibly busy.
To save you time on your next visit, here is a pro-tip most visitors don’t know: there is underground parking.
If you enter from the side street on the west end of the property, you can take a dedicated ramp straight to the upper level. This routes you directly to additional parking at the back of the property, giving you instant access to the second-floor walkways via the stairs or elevator. Skip the street-level traffic loops entirely.
A James Beard Gem Inside a Grocery Store
While you’re at Pacific Asian Plaza, it’s time to hunt down one of the most unique hidden gems in the entire city.
Tucked right onto the grocery floor inside SF Supermarket, you will find Big Dan Shanxi Taste. Serving up authentic, deeply comforting regional Chinese cuisine, this modest counter-service spot has earned official recognition from the prestigious James Beard Foundation. It perfectly captures the magic of Chinatown: world-class, critically acclaimed food hidden right next to the produce aisle.
After grabbing lunch, you can easily turn your visit into a full night out within the plaza—whether you’re getting all-you-can-eat sushi at Neko, sampling legendary mango treats at Hui Lau Shan, or booking a private room at Ninja Karaoke to close out the night.
