Welcome to This Week in Chinatown!
As we prepare to bid farewell to 2025 and welcome the promise of 2026, the energy on Spring Mountain Road is electric—blending the cozy glow of holiday lights with the full-throttle anticipation of New Year’s Eve. This week marks the final chapter of an extraordinary year for Chinatown Vegas, one defined by massive growth, resilient comebacks, and the unbreakable spirit of our community.
From the recent two-alarm fire at the 3755 Spring Mountain Plaza that tested local businesses once again (yet showcased our neighborhood’s incredible ability to rally and recover) to the exciting wave of new openings like Oden Spicy Hot Pot and Kao Kang Thai Street Food, Chinatown continues to evolve at a breathtaking pace. We’ve celebrated home-grown innovators like Zeba Shoes, stocked up on holiday deals at 99 Ranch and 168 Market, and reflected on new we broke of the mega-projects reshaping our skyline, the new pedestrian crosswalk safety win, and our community’s call to support Minja Yan in her bid for Clark County Commissioner, one thing remains clear: Spring Mountain Road is no longer just a destination—it’s a thriving, dynamic home that belongs to all of us.
As the weather stays cool and crisp (perfect for that last steaming hot pot or bowl of ramen), let’s embrace the final days of 2025 with gratitude for the challenges we’ve overcome and excitement for the adventures ahead. Whether you’re hitting the Sand Dollar Lounge for NYE blues, grabbing one last festive cocktail under the Miracle on Spring Mountain pop-up lights, or simply strolling the corridor with friends and family, Chinatown is ready to ring in the new year.
Here’s to the grit, flavor, and heart that make this neighborhood unforgettable—see you in 2026, stronger than ever.

Breaking News
Resilience After Second Fire in Two Months
The Chinatown community is rallying once again following a devastating two-alarm fire that broke out early Friday morning, December 26, at the 3755 Spring Mountain Road plaza.
The Incident
At approximately 5:50 a.m., thick black smoke and flames were spotted rising from the roof of the building. The Clark County Fire Department, assisted by North Las Vegas crews, responded within minutes to the pre-dawn blaze.
Nearly 80 firefighters were deployed to the scene. Because the fire extended into the attic and began to compromise the roof structure, crews were forced to transition to a defensive strategy, fighting the flames from the exterior to prevent a total loss of the strip mall.
Damage Assessment
The Halal Guys: The popular eatery bore the brunt of the damage. While the dining area may have avoided direct flames, the restaurant sustained significant structural damage to the roof and attic, as well as extensive smoke and water damage throughout.
Krung Siam: The neighboring Thai restaurant also reported damage. While crews worked hard to contain the spread, the proximity to the blaze has left the business facing a period of cleanup and assessment.
Surrounding Businesses: Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and popular neighbors like The Golden Tiki were spared from the fire.
A Pattern of Resilience
This is the second major fire to strike this specific plaza in less than 60 days. In early November, a separate accidental fire heavily damaged the Gold Rush Smoke Shop in the same complex.
While the official cause of Friday’s fire is still under investigation, the impact on these small business owners and their staff is immediate. Structural assessments and cleanup efforts are expected to take several months before these favorites can welcome guests back.
How to Support
As we look toward the New Year, we encourage everyone to continue visiting the 3755 Spring Mountain plaza. Foot traffic is the lifeblood of our corridor; supporting the open businesses in this block helps the entire plaza recover faster.
Chinatown Vegas will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates on reopening timelines as they become available.
New Openings Spotlight: Fresh Culinary Arrivals on Spring Mountain Road
In this week’s edition of This Week in Chinatown, we are excited to spotlight two new culinary additions that have officially opened their doors on Spring Mountain Road. From customizable spicy broths to authentic Thai street flavors, these new spots are must-visits for your next food crawl.
Oden Spicy Hot Pot: Customizable Comfort in Hotai Plaza
Taking over a prime spot in the Hotai Plaza, Oden Spicy Hot Pot (黑輪·麻辣烫) has officially opened, bringing a fresh and interactive DIY dining experience to the heart of the district. Specializing in Malatang, this eatery allows guests to take the reins of their meal. The concept is simple but addictive: grab a bowl, head to the refrigerated display, and hand-pick your favorite ingredients—ranging from fresh leafy greens and exotic mushrooms to premium meats and assorted “oden” style fish cakes.
Everything is priced at a straightforward $14.99/lb, making it easy to build a meal that fits both your appetite and your budget. Once you’ve made your selections, the kitchen cooks them in a signature spicy, numbing broth tailored to your preferred heat level. With late-night hours stretching until midnight on weekends, it’s poised to become a go-to destination for the Chinatown after-hours crowd.
Address: 4525 Spring Mountain Rd Ste 103, Las Vegas, NV 89103
Phone: (725) 298-1118
Hours: Mon–Thu: 11:00 AM – 11:00 PM; Fri–Sun: 11:00 AM – 12:00 AM
Kao Kang Thai Street Food: A Taste of Bangkok Next to Honey Pig
Just down the road in the Spring Oaks Shopping Center, Kao Kang Thai Street Food has opened its doors, and the early word from local foodies is nothing short of stellar. Located right next to the legendary Honey Pig, this new gem focuses on the authentic, “no-frills” spirit of Thailand’s vibrant street food scene.
Early reviews have praised the kitchen for its bold, balanced flavors. Highlights from the menu include a Pork Panang Curry that is slow-cooked until the meat is fork-tender, and a Green Curry Chicken that strikes the perfect balance of coconut milk without being overly heavy. For those seeking the “real deal,” the Laos-style Papaya Salad (Som Tum)—complete with crab and fermented fish sauce—is being hailed as one of the most authentic versions available in the city. Whether you’re craving the aromatic lemongrass notes of their fried chicken or a classic plate of tender chicken rice, Kao Kang is a welcome addition to the neighborhood’s thriving Thai food portfolio.
Location: 4725 W Spring Mountain Rd (Spring Oaks Shopping Center)

Chinatown Spotlight

Shining a light on the vibrant heart of Chinatown. Stay tuned for this week’s business spotlight!
Zeba Shoes – A Step Into the Future of Footwear
While Spring Mountain Road is world-famous for its culinary treasures, it is also home to one of the most innovative footwear companies in the country. This week, we are highlighting Zeba Shoes, a brand that has transformed the simple act of putting on shoes into a hands-free experience.
Located at 3843 Spring Mountain Road, Zeba Shoes serves as both a retail hub and the corporate headquarters for a brand that is revolutionizing comfort.
Why They’re Special
Zeba isn’t just another sneaker shop. They are the pioneers of the patented “collapsible heel” technology. For anyone who has ever struggled to bend over to tie laces—whether due to back pain, pregnancy, or simply being in a rush—Zeba is a game-changer. You tie the laces once to your perfect fit, and after that, you simply step in. The heel “pops” back into place automatically, securing your foot without you ever needing to reach down.
A True Chinatown Local
Founded in 2015 and headquartered right here in Las Vegas, Zeba is a homegrown success story. Their retail store in Chinatown is one of the few places in the world where you can try these on in person. The staff is known for their expertise in sizing, especially for those who need Extra Wide (4E) or even Extra-Extra Wide (6E) options—a rarity in the shoe world.
Visit Them This Week
If you’ve been looking for a gift for a loved one with mobility issues, or if you’re just tired of the “shoehorn shuffle” every morning, stop by and see the magic for yourself.
Where: 3843 Spring Mountain Rd, Las Vegas, NV 89102
Hours: Monday – Saturday, 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM (Closed Sundays)
The Vibe: Helpful, tech-forward, and incredibly accessible.

99 Ranch Market – 4155 Spring Mountain Rd
- Live Maine Lobster: $9.99/lb – The undisputed star of any holiday feast; stocks move fast!
- Japanese Wagyu Ribeye Slices: $12.99/pk – Perfect for a luxurious, melt-in-your-mouth shabu shabu night.

Shin-Sen-Gumi Yakitori – Now Targeting Early 2026
The legendary California chain (known for charcoal-grilled yakitori skewers, lively izakaya atmosphere, rice dishes, and appetizers) is still on track for 4810 Spring Mountain Rd. Despite some delays, the 2025 target holds—expect smoky, authentic Japanese pub energy soon.

Support Minja Yan for Clark County Commissioner
This week, we are shining our Community Corner spotlight on one of our neighborhood’s fiercest advocates: Minja Yan. As the driving force behind the Spring Mountain Corridor/Chinatown Redevelopment Plan, Minja has spent years fighting to make our streets safer, our businesses stronger, and our cultural heritage more protected.

Looking Back

A look back at the time of Las Vegas Chinatown
Looking Back
The Year Chinatown Went “Mega”
As we close out 2025, the transformation of Spring Mountain Road is staggering. We have officially moved past the era of small strip-mall updates and into the Age of the Mega-Project.
This is the definitive deep dive into the confirmed breaking news and exclusive announcements ChinatownVegas.com broke that defined the year.
The “Mega-Project” Explosion
This was the year the Chinatown skyline fundamentally changed. We broke the news on multiple large-scale developments that will reshape the district for the next decade:
- The Boring Company Loop: Chinatown entered the future with the confirmation of three Loop stations. Directly connecting the district to the Las Vegas Strip via underground Tesla tunnels, this was a game-changing infrastructure win that reframed Chinatown as a regional destination, not a detour.
- Chubby World: We exclusively broke the news of this massive 25,000-square-foot, four-story Japanese-themed complex taking over the former Firestone building. Featuring a basement music hall and a “Tokyo Alley” food court, it instantly became the most ambitious single project ever announced on Spring Mountain Road.
- Jade Promenade: The confirmed $40 million, 73,000-square-foot retail and entertainment plaza at Spring Mountain and Pioneer signaled that institutional-level investment has fully arrived.
- XYZ² (XYZ Square): We confirmed the high-end transformation of the former Wells Fargo Regional Campus into a Class A mixed-use destination, marking one of the largest commercial repositionings in Chinatown history.
The Culinary Heavyweights & Global Brands
2025 saw legendary regional and global brands finally plant their flags in our soil, with many of these scoops appearing first on our site:
- Puradak Confirmed: We broke the news that the “Prada of Fried Chicken” is bringing its luxury Korean Fried Chicken glory to Spring Oaks.
- Shin-Sen-Gumi Yakitori: The legendary California yakitori chain is officially bringing its world-famous skewers and Hakata-style energy to our neighborhood.
- Sen Thai Noodle: Slated for 3380 Arville St.—we first reported this Thai noodle destination back on January 12, 2025.
- Master Sushi and Oyster: A major upgrade for Golden Dragon Park, confirmed to replace the former Pho spot with a high-end raw bar concept.
The Tea Titans: A Global Epicenter
Chinatown officially became the epicenter of elite global tea culture this year:
- Hatoya Ryoyousha: We broke the arrival of the legendary Kyoto-based matcha originator, bringing over 1,200 years of tea heritage to Spring Mountain Road.
- TP Tea: The “Originator of Bubble Milk Tea” officially landed at 4770 Spring Mountain Rd, bringing its revered TieGuanYin tea lineage to the district.
- Chicha San Chen: The Michelin-starred favorite confirmed its opening in Shanghai Plaza, cementing Chinatown Vegas as a global front line for premium tea.
The “Restaurant Lemming” Cycle: News You Heard Here First
Our long-running “Restaurant Lemmings” theory—where concepts flood the district until saturation hits—was fully validated in 2025. From the Claw Craze (Claw Joyland, KT Lucky, and Claw World) to the relentless wave of new dining, we tracked it all.
The 2025 Newcomer Run-Off:
This isn’t just a list; it’s a track record. These are the brands we brought to your attention for the first time—throughout the year:
Doya • Airoma Cafe (taking over Feng Cha) • Pho 79 DC • VT Mania • DR SCALP HEAD SPA • Lula Bar • Chubby Skewer • Jjamppong Zizon • Pink Gorilla • Alchemist • Krok • Fish with You • Ellie’s Chinese Restaurant • Snack Shack • L.X Salon • Curry-Ya • K-Ways Car Lounge • True Matcha • Mukgo Nolza • Matcha Maiko Cafe • Kao Gang Thai • Pot on Fire • Eden Hotpot
Arrival of the Giants
- Teso Life: The Japanese lifestyle titan officially opened on December 6, 2025, anchoring the former CVS at Spring Mountain Center and becoming an instant retail powerhouse.
- Shoo Loong Kan: After two years of anticipation, the global Szechuan hot pot giant finally neared its opening, unveiling its signature ancient-city architecture at Chinatown Plaza.
- The 888 Empire Pivot: We confirmed the 888 Group’s takeover of Golden Spring Plaza, transforming the space into a Sushi, Robata, and Yakiniku powerhouse.
Infrastructure & Cultural Shifts
The Arville Pedestrian Crosswalk: After 52 weeks of “cone reports,” the completion of this crosswalk ended the “Left-Turn Hunger Games”—a massive victory for pedestrian safety first championed here.
Openings & Closures: We saw the opening of Pho Saigonese after a car crash nearly ended its run, and the debut of Amador Cocina Fina (the evolution of EDO). Meanwhile, we said goodbye to pioneers like Yunnan Garden and 1004 Café.
The Big Takeaway & A Look Ahead
2025 wasn’t just a big year for Chinatown; it was the year Chinatown Vegas crossed the point of no return. This district is no longer “emerging”—it has arrived as a global player.
Stay tuned to ChinatownVegas.com. We’ll be the first to let you inside.
Chinatown Gripes
The Spring Mountain Struggle
Let’s be honest: driving through Chinatown right now is a daily test of patience. We’re all feeling the same frustrations—many of them not new, just louder than ever. These are the same gripes we’ve been complaining about for years.
The Timer Trap
Why does the Spring Mountain traffic light feel like it lasts three seconds for us and three minutes for everyone else? Sitting through two or three cycles just to go straight isn’t “traffic”—it’s a part-time job.
Pothole Roulette
If you aren’t swerving to miss the craters near mall entrances, are you even a local? Alignment shops might be the only ones benefiting from this situation.
Left-Turn Limbo
Ever wait 10 minutes to pull out of a Chinatown plaza because someone is trying to make a left turn across multiple lanes of traffic? PLEASE ban left turns out of the major strip malls. This alone would relieve so much congestion.
Pedestrian Chicken (Now With a Button)
Crossing Spring Mountain has long felt like an extreme sport—dim streetlights, 45-mph “suggestions” that feel more like 60, and traffic that rarely yields.
Now, a new pedestrian crossing signal is officially in effect, and it’s already drawing mixed reactions on social media. While some welcome the added safety, many drivers and business owners worry it will slow traffic even more. A common refrain online: “Why not build a pedestrian bridge instead?”
Clark County Commissioner Justin Jones directly addressed this on his official Instagram account (@justinjonesnv), replying to those concerns:
“We don’t have the space to add an ADA-compliant bridge. We’ve considered this. Traffic safety experts recommended a crosswalk.”
Whether the new signal becomes a safety win or another congestion headache remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: Spring Mountain Road continues to test everyone’s patience, on foot and behind the wheel.
