Welcome to This Week in Chinatown!
Welcome to another vibrant week in Las Vegas Chinatown! As we wrap up April and step into May, the neighborhood is buzzing with new openings, major community celebrations, and the official kickoff of AAPI Heritage Month.
This week, we’re celebrating the grand opening of オアシス抹茶 Oasisu Matcha, exciting new ballfields at Desert Breeze Park, an action-packed lineup at the legendary Sand Dollar Lounge, and the final weekend of a powerful theatrical production at Las Vegas Little Theatre. Plus, we’re highlighting four more standout content creators who are helping put Chinatown on the map.
Whether you’re hunting for deals at 99 Ranch and 168 Market, craving live music, or just soaking in the energy of the corridor, there’s something for everyone this week.
Let’s dive in! 🏮
Breaking News
News: オアシス抹茶 Oasisu Matcha Opens & New Flavors Coming to Golden Spring Plaza
オアシス抹茶 Oasisu Matcha has officially opened at Golden Spring Plaza (5845 Spring Mountain Rd #117), taking over the space formerly occupied by Yomie’s Rice x Yogurt. The new shop specializes in premium matcha lattes and traditional whisked preparations, adding a dedicated tea destination to the plaza’s diverse lineup.
Also in the Golden Spring Plaza, the vacancy at the former Shigotonin space may soon be filled. While the Japanese eatery closed its doors several months ago, rumors are swirling that an authentic Shaanxi-style restaurant is planning to take over the suite. This would bring the bold, regional flavors of Northwest China—think hand-pulled biang biang noodles and savory roujiamo—to this corner of the district. We are tracking the developments and will have more news on this soon.

Looking Back

A look back at the time of Las Vegas Chinatown
April 2016 – The First Review of Hobak Korean BBQ
Before the long wait times and international acclaim, Emily H. was the very first person to “check in” and share the Hobak experience on April 2, 2016:
“Be ready to have some fresh, high quality meat grilled in front of you! Popular Korean bbq franchise! Good food! Good service! Good atmosphere! What else do you need!” — Emily H., April 2, 2016
Standout Highlight: The popcorn green tea ice cream, which she called “the bomb.”
From buzzing newcomer in 2016 to a true cornerstone of Chinatown in 2026 — Hobak’s journey is a reminder of how far this neighborhood has come.

Chinatown Gripes
One video that nails it better than any long rant ever could.
This clip perfectly captures the funny, nostalgic, and brutally honest side of Las Vegas Chinatown — how a once-quiet stretch along Spring Mountain Road turned into one of the most vibrant (and chaotic) dining corridors in the country.
It’s all here:
- Crossing Spring Mountain still feels like playing Frogger
- Traffic that moves at a snail’s pace is now part of the “experience.”
- The growth has been explosive… but the infrastructure hasn’t always kept up
Yet it also reminds you exactly why we put up with it.
Chinatown didn’t just grow — it exploded into a food paradise packed with incredible Asian dining options from every corner of the continent.
👉 That’s the trade-off.
Bottom line: Las Vegas Chinatown is better than it’s ever been… and more gloriously chaotic than ever.
