Chinatown Report: This Week in Chinatown
Las Vegas Chinatown news and analysis by Chinatownvegas.com. Food. Restaurants. Tips. Things to do. Events. What’s in? What’s out? RUMORS + much more
Chinatown Vegas hopes everyone had a wonderful Chinese Lunar New Year. We kicked off with a festival at the Chinatown Plaza. On the 29th, we continue celebrating the Year of the Rabbit at the 2nd annual Desert Breeze Spring Festival. Desert Breeze Park is also located on Spring Mountain Rd., a few minutes west of Chinatown. The event will start with a lion dance at 11 AM and the festivities will continue until 2 PM. Emcee for the event will be Asian Community Ambassador Sou Weet.
Also this week, the prestigious James Beard Awards were announced and our Chinatown has TWO winners. In total, Las Vegas had 5 nominees, which is our best representation to date. We hope that each year going forward Las Vegas receives more and more nominations, however for bragging rights, we doubt any Chinatown in the USA will ever have two semi-finalist winners. Kaoru Azeuchi of Kaiseki Yuzu and Jimmy Li of ShangHai Taste are the Chinatown chefs nominated for best chefs in the Southwest. The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on June 5 in Chicago. We wish our nominees the best of luck.
Let’s have a look and see what is new in Chinatown.
Starting from the east and heading west on Spring Mountain Rd.
What’s Up at The Center at Spring Mountain?
Smash, Wreck, and Vent and not get in trouble for it
Feel like breaking something for no reason? Well, now might be a good time with a great deal at the Wreck Room. The Wreck Room, which we have featured in the 8 Cool Things to do in Chinatown has a Groupon deal that is hard to beat. Guests choose between a baseball bat or a crowbar as their weapon and get to smash ordinary household items. What a great way to let off some steam! Don’t feel like wreckin’ but wanna watch? The Wreck Room has a live feed that you can watch from the lobby if you aren’t able to participate. Each steel “rage” room has one large item, 5 medium items, and 15 small items. Remember, you are not paying to break things – you’re paying for them to clean up what you break!

New Menu Items at Moxie Restaurant and Ultra Lounge
Moxie Ultra Lounge resembles a club you would find at a top strip casino. It’s gorgeous inside. It’s a restaurant, a bar, a lounge, and a club that specializes in Asian tapas, specialty cocktails, and high-quality hookah, and features special guest DJs.
They have some additions to their menu such as “Bang Bang” Cauliflower, which is fried cauliflower tossed in a spicy “ultra” sauce and tossed with green onions. For the carnivores, they have added a 36OZ “Yin-Yang” Tomahawk steak. The bang bang cauliflower is $17 and the steak is $150

Finally, the new Chinatown mall has a name
After months of rumors about what it would be named, the new Chinatown strip mall has been officially named Koreatown Village and is scheduled to open the first week of April. Koreatown Village is located just west of Lindell Road on the south side of Spring Mountain Rd.
Koreatown Village, by local restauranteur Freddy Hwang of the Sapporo Restaurant Group is nearing completion of its 13,000-square-foot shopping center. We have already written that there will be a 4,000 sq foot Master Kim’s Korean BBQ and an Open Bank and now we have learned that the Karaoke place will be Industry 13
Industry 13 is an upscale modern Asian karaoke bar with 14 private rooms. Industry 13 will have a modern karaoke system in each room that will contain Chinese, and Korean and the ability to play songs from YouTube. They will have 5 small rooms, 5 medium-sized rooms, and 4 large rooms and a full-service bar along with a fully operating kitchen to provide high-quality food. The interior is set to be a modern-style industrial warehouse along with state-of-the-art video/audio systems in the bar area and in each room. Some of the larger rooms will contain a small lit-up stage for patrons to enjoy and sing on, each room will be designed differently and will have its own unique look and feel.
Open Bank whose vision and mission is to be known as a faith-based community bank focused on relationship banking. Open Bank started in Los Angeles, California in 2005 as First Standard Bank and changed its name to Open Bank in 2010. Open Bank shares ten percent of its profits with local non-profit organizations. Open Bank representatives confirmed with Chinatown Vegas that they will open in the 2nd Quarter, of 2023.
Master Kim’s Korean BBQ, will be its third location adding Chinatown to its southwest and strip locations. Master Kim’s is an AYCE Korean BBQ that serves certified Angus Beef.
New Tasting Menu by Seafresh’s Chef Jimmy Li
Seafresh Coastal Seafood Bar, the 16-seat seafood bar by newly nominated James Beard Award semi-finalist Chef Jimmy Li has a new tasting menu. They first debuted a six courses menu back in October of last year for only $49 and was considered one of the best bargains for upscale food in the city. The new menu features a mixed seafood wonton in an ocean-herbal broth, baked oysters, braised and grilled octopus, and a matcha tiramisu which is also available at its sister restaurant, ShangHai Taste.
