Business Updates
It is with sadness that we announce the closure of Shigotonin. While the sign on the door says “until further notice,” our sources indicate the closure is permanent. We believe this amazing restaurant may have suffered from branding and marketing issues, and we hope the owners find success in future ventures.
U Shabu has been replaced by K Bunsik Korean Soul Food. The new restaurant is now open and, as a bonus, it is BYOB.

A Call to Support Local Business

Chinatown Gripes: Persistent Community Concerns
This week, we are forced to reiterate a frustrating truth: to date, not a single one of our core community gripes has been corrected. The issues that affect our residents, business owners, and visitors remain unaddressed. Therefore, we are resurrecting these complaints and will continue to do so until action is taken.
-
-
- Potholes and Infrastructure:
- Many residents have noted the challenging road conditions on our main strip. We are pleased to report that the strip is officially scheduled for a full repaving project in **2026**. While this timeline is in place, temporary fixes are crucial. Residents can report specific **potholes** and other road hazards to the city’s public works department to request temporary repairs.
- Traffic and Parking:
- We’ve received reports from local business owners and residents regarding an increase in **vandalism and graffiti**. We all must work together to keep our community beautiful. Please report any incidents to the local police non-emergency line as soon as you see them, and if possible, provide photographs to assist in the investigation and cleanup.
- RTC Buses in Chinatown:
-
- The Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) provides a valuable public service to our community. As the plaza continues to evolve, we see an opportunity to enhance the accessibility of these services. Current bus stops are located along the main thoroughfare, requiring a longer walk to reach the plaza’s entrances. To improve last-mile connectivity for our visitors, we propose a discussion with the RTC about modifying routes to allow for direct drop-offs at or closer to the plaza entrances. This simple adjustment could significantly improve convenience for riders and encourage more patrons to use public transit. Your Voice Matters
Your feedback helps us address the most pressing issues in our neighborhood. For any community concerns, please reach out to us or contact the appropriate city department directly.
